Initial reorts indicate Al Quaeda no. 2 Zarahawi may have been sent to hell earlier. Apparently a known AQ compound in Pakistan was hit by a predator drone. Instead of 72 virgins I'm hoping he finds himself with a 72 yo virgin!

Stories are beginning to emerge that Zarquawi made have been killed in a siege with US and Iraqi forces. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/11/20/132036.shtml At this time nothing has been confirmed but arab and Israeli sources are saying that he may have been one of eight that blew themselves up. At the same time his Jordanian family has renounced him. This is a big deal in the Muslim world as he no longer has the help or protection of his tribe.
If true, I can think of no better way to start the holidays. Seeing him at the end of a rope would be gratifying, but the process of getting him there is long and tortuous, God only knows how many would be kidnapped in a vain attempt to ransom him. Best that he be cornered like a rat and exterminated. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Rice v Clinton

Secretary Rice has been all over the Middle East this weekend. Negotiating with Israel and the Palestinians, visiting Saudi Arabia and headed to Jordan to spread condolences over the terrorist bombings. Is there any doubt who the most qualified individual of either party is? Hillary's dismal record in the Senate cannot begin to compare with Rice's accomplishments. And, lets face it, if not for Bill Hillary would be a backwoods lawyer in Arkansas (because she couldn't pass the Bar in Washington). Rice is riding high on her OWN accomplishments not a largely failed President.

I've been following this story from Afganistan about the desecration of Taliban bodies by US soldiers. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,173120,00.html Is it me or does this smack of huge hypocrisy?
The dragging of American bodies through the streets of Mogadishu was a big celebration in the Muslim world. Is this not desecration? I know I was angry enough to chew nails. The dragging and hanging off a bridge of American contractors is certainly desecration. Yet let a couple of Muslim bodies get burned and there is a huge uproar. Not dragged and kicked, not mutilated, not hanged, simply burned.
If cremation is such a taboo in Islam how do they reconcile suicide bombing? Car bombs most certainly immolate the fool delivering it. I remember seeing a considerable amount of flame coming from the aircraft striking the World Trade Center.
If cremating a couple terrorists (yeah, I said terrorist; insurgent implies legitimacy)gives the others pause then I say more cremations. The boys were probably acting out a scene attributed to General 'Black Jack' Pershing. Legend has it he executed 49 of 50 Muslim terrorists in the Philippines with bullets dipped in pig's blood. The last one carried the message to the rest of the miscreants and Pershing had no further trouble...until WWI. Probably never happened, but wouldn't it be great to have leaders with the stones to act and act desicively without the ever present PC crowd hobbling them?
It's tough to be the only ones in the game expected to follow the rules.

This is incredible! John Gibson at Foxnews blogged on Cindy's unbelievable insensitivity toward the victims of Katrina and Rita http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170597,00.html . Upset that the press coverage devoted to the hurricanes was diverting attention from her new celebrity status, she dismisses these killer storms as "a little wind and rain..." Apparently she has alienated some of her followers; we can only hope she will fade into obscurity soon.

I did not set out to create a hurricane site, but it appears we just can't get enough of them. Rita is now inland and losing strength, luckily she powered down some before making landfall. It appears that the expected hit to refineries was not as bad as first thought, but expect gas to be both scarce and expensive for a couple weeks.
Texas was as prepared as was possible; not surprising. After Katrina any Gulf Coast state and city is going to overreact to so much as a dark cloud. New Orleans ninth ward is once again flooded, no doubt more of Farrakhans bombers at work.

I have always liked Rudy and he really took charge after the twin towers were hit. Funny how, without 5 days warning, he took charge of a city (much larger than New Orleans) and decisively directed the evacuation and recovery efforts without FEMA holding his hand. No finger pointing, no crying, no excuses.
The article also mentions the Governor of Mississippi, remember Mississippi? With all the histrionics in NO it 's hard to remember that they were not directly impacted and the lions share of the damage resides in Gulfport and Biloxi. However the state and local recovery moves along under the radar of the posturing left and their cronies in the MSM. I guess Bush only hates blacks in Louisiana.

The former first wench is planning to tour New Orleans, how many New York voters live there? Also on the drawing board: legislation to raise FEMA to a cabinet level post. Given her dismal record in the Senate not much danger of that happening.

I see that former president Hillary has added her shrill voice to the chorus of blame. How is it that the left cannot face the fact that the failure was at the local and state level? Oh,that's right the Mayor and Governor are Democrats; obviously they can't fail. The federal response is supplemental to the local and state efforts, always has been.
Here in Destin the last 2 years have been a parade of hurricane and tropical storms. Obviously the topography is hugely different, but the need to have a cohesive plan is not. Our city, county and state efforts have been so good that FEMA is relegated to going door to door trying to give away money. Now they are trying to get some of it back. I lost 5 shingles in Ivan and the Corps of Engineers was at the door trying to give me a blue tarp roof . I declined as there was greater need elsewhere.
The idea of the feds as all-seeing, all knowing big brother babysitter just rubs me the wrong way. The mayor of New Orleans lives with the city problems on a daily basis, could he not have seen this coming. Let's be real, hurricanes aren't like earthquakes that just happen. We watched this thing for a week. Shelters were open in West Florida even when it became clear that the storm was going to miss us. These things are huge, we still got wind and rain being 250 miles from the eye.
Clearly the fault lies with Nagin and Blanco. Having said that I will not fall into the trap of finger pointing over action. As I am in the habit of telling the sailors in my division "fix the problem, not the blame!"
